Thabazimbi is an iron mining town in the Limpopo province of South Africa. The name Thabazimbi means mountain of iron because of the large iron ore reef. The mine boasts one of the largest mining shafts in Africa. More than 2 million tons of ore are mined every year and hauled by train to Mittal’s iron and steel works. Some of the best game reserves are located in the area and they offer conducted game drives, excellent accommodation and outstanding cuisine.


The Curio shops is filled with colorful African artifacts. The store offers a variety of traditional masks, ethnic beadwork, precious stones taken from the African soil and silver set into delicately crafted African jewelry. Coffee shops and restaurants.

Marakele National Park and Predator park – Thabazimbi

The park is characterized by contrasting majestic mountain landscapes, grass hills and deep valleys. Rare finds of yellowwood and cedar trees, five meter high cycads and tree ferns, are some of the plant species found here and Marakele supports 765 plant species. Drive through the park and the beauty of nature. Have a picnic on the spectacular view of the mountain pass. Marakele Predator Park is a park located just out of Marakele National Park. Currently the park contains both white and tawny colored lions, Tigers, Cheetah, Wild Dogs and Hyena.

Animal Interaction & Encounters – Zebula

The Welgevonden Private Game Reserve, a malaria free game Reserve, is a declared Heritage site and now part of a greater conservancy area of 100 000 hectares of game sanctuary incorporating Marakele National Park. This is a place of rare and rugged beauty, plentiful wildlife and prolific bird-life. Spectacular scenary and excellent game viewing make Welgevonden quite unlike anywhere else on earth.

Pilanesberg National Park

The Park ranks among the largest of the national parks in South Africa and covers an area of 137 500 acres. Pilanesberg is one of the largest volcanic complexes of its kind in the world. Its rare rock types and structure make it a unique geological feature. The beauty of Pilanesberg is reflected in a large central lake, the Mankwe Dam. You can also see the big 5 species in the park.

Ivory Tree Lodge

Ivory Tree Game Lodge is situated in the north eastern region of the Pilanesberg National Park, the closest point of entry is through Bakgatla Gate. Nestled in the basin of an ancient amphitheater divided by riverine woodlands and elephant trails lies an exclusive game lodge. The central facility includes a stunning feature pool, bar, conference room, dining room, boma, reception and curio shop.

Kwa Maritane Bush Lodge

An ancient alkaline volcano fashioned the very hills that KwaMaritane stands on today. Hence it’s name, which literally means “Place of the Rock”. From here, you can look out over the infinite plains adjacent to the Pilanesberg National Park – an area rich in wildlife and hosting around 365 species of birds.

Robben Island

Robben Island is an island in Table Bay, west of the coast of Bloubergstrand, Cape Town, South Africa. The name is Dutch for “seal island”. Presidents of South Africa Nelson Mandela and Kgalema Motlanthe, alongside many other political prisoners, spent 27 years imprisoned during the apartheid era. Among those political prisoners was current President of South Africa Jacob Zuma who was imprisoned there for ten years.

Table Mountain

Table Mountain is a flat-topped mountain forming a prominent landmark overlooking the city of Cape Town in South Africa. Table Mountain has an unusually rich biodiversity. Its vegetation consists predominantly of several different types of the unique and rich Cape Fynbos. Hiking on Table Mountain is popular, as well as Rock climbing and exploring through the Wynberg caves.
